Backup Vaults – Point-in-Time Machine Snapshots
Backup Vaults store point-in-time snapshots of file states from each machine in your account. These snapshots capture your system at specific moments, enabling recovery of files from any backup date. With DVE, you can browse and retrieve data from all devices linked to your backup account.

Unlike Archival Vaults, files in a File Share can be added, updated, and deleted — making them ideal for active collaboration, document management, and operational data that multiple users need to access and modify. With DVE's Windows Direct integration, your File Share repository mounts as a Windows drive letter for seamless access from any application.

Web Portal – Access Your Vaults from Any Device
Every vault is accessible directly through the Bit Lagoon web portal — no software installation required. The web portal is the simplest way to browse, download, and manage vault contents when you're away from your Windows workstation or working on a non-Windows platform.

Windows Direct – Mount Your Vault as a Drive
The latest version of Data Vault Explorer includes Windows Direct, a built-in WebDAV integration that mounts your Bit Lagoon repository directly as a Windows drive letter. Access your File Share, Archive, or Backup vault through Windows Explorer, Microsoft Office, and any Windows application — no additional software required. Backup vaults expose point-in-time snapshots as browsable folders, enabling direct file-level retrieval and restoration from any backup date without running a full restore job.
Drive Letter Access
Your repository appears as a standard Windows drive (e.g. Z:\), accessible from any application that can open files.
File Share: Full Read-Write
Create, edit, move, and delete files in your File Share repository exactly as you would on a local drive.
Archive: Append-Only
Archive repositories enforce immutability even through the drive — files can be added but not modified or deleted.
Backup: Point-in-Time Browse
Backup vaults are exposed as browsable snapshot folders. Open, copy, or restore individual files directly from any backup date — no full restore required.
Windows 10 & 11
Uses the native Windows WebDAV redirector — no third-party drivers or services. Compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
